Although this derby is held for all ages, it is geared toward youth participation.  We have instructors within our club who are also Maine Island Fisheries & Wildlife Safety Instructors as well as Hooked on Fishing and Not on Drugs Instructors.

All youth participants of our fishing derby receive door prizes as well as a chance to win a Maine Resident Lifetime Fishing License.  There are also 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes given to youths in each fish category of fish; Bass, Trout, Crappie, Pickerel, White Perch and Yellow Perch.  This year we have purchased 100 Max Traps and 18 pack baskets handmade by Bill Harmon of Sumner so that each 1st youth finisher will receive 5 new traps in a pack basket.  Youth participation usually exceeds 200 boys and girls from Phippsburg and surrounding Mid Coast area communities.
